Junior Racer Program

Junior Racers are elementary and middle school age skiers who want to spend more time skiing, work harder, and go faster.

The Junior Racer Program meets two days a week, spending more time on skis with coaches and developing their classic and skate skills.  All The program is designed for skiers who want to be able to go fast and work hard, getting lots of technique tips, playing games, skiing fast and having fun.  Junior Racers should have good listening skills as this group will go the the Ethan Allen Firing Range Biathalon Center, the Range, Tuesdays and HTC on Fridays Junior racers will ski both skate and classic techniques; when each happens depends on the weather and trail conditions.

Junior Racers meet on Tuesdays at the Ethan Allen Firing Range, the Range, and on Fridays at Hamill's Training Center, Donna's, from 3:30pm, ready to ski, to about 5pm, depending on conditions.  Occasionally, Junior Racers will have the opportunity to meet at other ski centers.  Where this is an extra cost, the club will cover ski passes for the kids.

As this group meets at places where high level skiers ski fast, it is essential that Junior Racers have good listening skills.  We love working with lots of kids, but children who have trouble following directions will be asked to join either the Adventure or the Rec groups.

Meeting depends on the weather and snow conditions: check the Junior Racer Plans Page or call the hotline 860-8401 before heading out.

We also hold a number of special events throughout the season. Check the Junior Racer Plans Page or the Calendar.

We encourage Junior Racers to try some of the BK races in the area throughout the season. The races are designed for all ages and abilities to have fun experiencing racing. The Bill Koch Festival is a large fun event with clubs from all over New England, held in a different location every year. Check the Calendar.

Parents, and others, are welcome to ski as volunteer helpers.  Skiing adults
must sign up and be able and willing to help out as needed, joining a group or, if not needed initially, be watching for groups or kids who could use a hand: a child who needs ski or clothing help, a group that is spreading apart, a child who doesn't see their group, etc. A commitment of every week is not necessary.

The Junior Race program costs $65 for the winter. Fill out these forms below and bring them to sign ups with your check, payable to Mansfield Nordic Club.   Adults coming to skiing, need to sign the NENSA form. There is a $5 per child discount for signing up at sign ups on sign days.  There is a $10 late fee for sign ups after Dec 1st.

Scholarships are available if the fee would prevent participation in the program: please contact Jane Reny.
