MNC Thanksgiving training camp with Garrott Kuzzy.

While 1000s of skiers travel to West Yellowstone, Crested Butte or Sliver Star for T-Camp, MNC had it's first annual Thanksgiving training camp right here in Vermont. With a mix of natural and manmade snow, 10 skiers from our junior elite and development teams got 4 days of intense coaching from US Olympian, Garrott Kuzzy and assistant coaches Bryan Cook and Maria Stuber.

Focused technique work, ski specific strength, games on skis and video analysis were all components of an incredible experience for our junior skiers!

MNC junior elite and development team members attended a thanksgiving camp at Craftsbury with US Ski Team & 2010 Olympic skier Garrott Kuzzy. Garrott is an MNC summer program coach and organized the 5 day camp so our top juniors could get the pre-season jump without traveling to West Yellowstone or Silver Star camps.

Some highlights:

- A foot of fresh snow the night before we arrived

- Groomed corduroy for our first ski of the camp...and every ski other ski the rest of the week

- Thanksgiving dinner with athlete's and their families

- A classic technique session with Bryan Cook, specifically working on a distinct glide phase between kicks

- Weight room strength with Maria showing some alternative strength like rubber band assisted pull-ups

- Green Bay Packer victory over the Lions on Thanksgiving, which inspired...

- Football and Ultimate frisbee: Vermont vs Maine (Go 802!)

- Bill Harmeyer's GoPro video from the camp

- Forrest and Sam pulling 360s off their kicker

- Judy, Dick, and the rest of the Craftsbury center working non-stop to keep the skiing excellent by blowing snow, shoveling, and grooming 24-7

- All girls learning how to throw a spiral pass with a football (no one knew this was actually a football camp disguised as ski camp)

- A fun time trial with Harvard, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont representation

- Swimming (brrrr) in the freezing lake followed by a luke-warm sauna (brrrr)

- Skiing in shorts and t-shirts on the last day: 2 hours on snow and didn't ski the same trail twice

Touching base with Murray...Ever wonder why Murray & Jane disappear for November & December each year? They spend the early season in Crested Butte, Co where their sons are mt guides and they find early snow. Balance agility and fun!

Fall Fun Fitness training continued for our BKL racer group last Friday at Mills Riverside Park in Underhill. Coach Rick's creative and varied workouts kept everyone on their toes ... or hands. They did everything from running backwards uphill to wheelbarrow relay races. A large turnout of young athletes and a beautiful fall day made for lots of smiles and laughter.

Our first Fall Fun Fitness training last Saturday was a hike to the top of Sterling Mt at Smuggs. The speedy group was at the top so fast, we had plenty of time for climbing and a “chairlift pull up contest” in which the group did 120 total pull ups! A quick snack and run back down was followed by a pot luck and swimming in the Smuggs pool.

Former MNC BKSL skier Skyler Davis returned home this past weekend to be the "celebrity guest coach" for our top junior skiers. Skyler was recently named to the US Ski Team and will travel to Europe next month to compete in 3 world cup sprints! His charismatic & passionate style was infectious and set the tone for our fall training program.
