Float Forward

All about Body Position

Key Phrases

Lean- Forward lean equals forward motion

Hips forward and butt tucked in- Don’t get behind in the behind

Shoulders round & down, like a gorilla

Ankles flexed forward- you shouldn’t be able to see your toes.

    Reach arms forward

Why?

As the activity below demonstrates, you can add to your motion just by being forward, and this makes skiing easier and more efficient, uphills especially. Being forward helps you glide longer, and balance more easily.

How?

Your ankle should be flexed enough so your knee is forward and you cannot see your toes. Your thigh should be vertical, so your hips are in front of your heels. If you are forward in Classic, you can glide on each stride even on steep uphills, making you faster and more efficient.

Activities and Games

Start standing with your feet in a “V” like skating, then move your hips forward, flex your ankles, and lean forward. When your hips are forward, you will start sliding forward.

Practice skate and classic position without skis or poles, especially getting forward.
