Go for Glide

Key Phrases

       Glide!

Slow down your tempo and glide!

       Don’t run on skis!

Why?

Gliding uses less energy than picking up your ski to move it. The more you glide, the less energy you use. Gliding adds to your forward momentum. The whole point of having skis on is that we don’t run. A flat ski glides much more efficiently than a ski edge.

How?

Ask who has slid for fun on an ice patch or on a wood floor.

See who likes picking up their skis, walking or running with bulky weights on!

Classic- Swing your leg through, like kicking a soccer ball. Slide hip/ thigh forward with stride. Swing your arm forward. Glide up the hills.

Skate- keep your skis flat and glide for several seconds each stride.
